About The Association of
American Indian Practitioners

Association of American Indian Practitioners (“AAIP”) licenses practitioners of indigenous medicine (“IM”), which includes the practices of alternative, complementary, and integrative medicine. For some IM practitioners (e.g., MDs, DOs, etc.) AAIP provides dual licensure. For other IM practitioners (e.g., NDs, OMDs, etc.) AAIP provides a home for single licensure where no Board exists for IM regulation in their state. This is because IM practitioners need supervision by a regulatory board that specializes in the optimal wellness approach to the support of participants as opposed to the conventional disease management model.

Definition of Indigenopathic Medicine

Indigenopathic Medicine

is a holistic system of healing and wellness rooted in the traditional knowledge and practices of Indigenous cultures. It encompasses a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including herbal remedies, ceremonial rituals, energy balancing, and spiritual healing, all designed to restore harmony and balance within the individual and their community. Indigenopathic Medicine places a strong emphasis on the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, and seeks to address the root causes of ailments by considering the cultural, social, and environmental factors that influence health. It is deeply ingrained in the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities and has been passed down through generations as a means of promoting overall well-being, resilience, and a harmonious relationship with the natural world.
